The process of our Karnik by TK-LA scarves
The creation of each Karnik by TK-LA scarf takes about 6 months from start to finish. My goal is to take these gorgeous ornate paintings and create something fresh and young for the modern woman without losing the historical and cultural artistry.
ORIGNAL PAINTINGS
Once I have an idea of a design layout and my inspiration board, I start the “restoration” process. I go in and slowly restore the painting to prepare it for printing on fine fabric. This process, which is entirely hand-done, consists of fine tuning details, revising inconsistencies, sharpening images, and color enhancement which is all very time-consuming. I then play around with the different design layouts, designs are revised and redeveloped several times as small details can make a difference. Once a final design is set, I send out a few sizes and fabrics to Italy for samples.
MOODBOARD
The samples come back between two to three weeks. The elimination process and editing take place at this point. We also test samples for quality, durability, and wearability. This can take up to a month. Once everything is finalized, the design goes out to the manufacturing factory in Como. This process usually takes another month or so for the beautiful scarves to make it back to LA!
