A Study In Ornament

I have always been fascinated by ornament—the borders, patterns and decorative details that can transform something ordinary into something distinctive and beautiful.

For this collection, I focused on one single paintings and began looking more closely at the smaller elements within it. Borders, repeating motifs and geometric forms brought to mind the decorative tiles and colors I had encountered in Portugal and Italy. By isolating, rearranging and reworking these details through color, scale and repetition, something familiar began to take on a new life.

A Study in Ornament brings together Sonia, Carrie, Siena and Zella—four scarves born from one painting, each exploring ornament in its own way.
